Kilim
Kilim is a handiwork which its weft and warp have been made up of sheep or goat wool, and generally used as a carpet.
Handmade Kilims are simple woven rugs made of cotton or wool of domestic animals. Each area has its own design and is generally used as a rug. Kilim weaving may have other uses than carpets with variations, including saltpeter, horse rug, tent strip.
It may be said that in Central Asia, Eastern Europe and North Africa wherever people nurture goats and sheep and camels and their people specialized in carpet weaving, Kilims were also woven. The Turkmen, Faghaz, Turk, Arab, and… peoples have produced and used Kilim.
The colors used in traditional Kilims are herbal. Sometimes the Kilims are rinsed with tea and walnut skin to enhance their appearance and color and make them look like vintage Kilims.
The nomads and weavers of the Kilims have no limit on the size of the Kilims, and have weaved their Kilims according to their needs from a small size or larger for decoration. there is no standard in this case. Kilims are also woven in the usual size for carpets that can be cited as :

Dyeing
In the past, Kilim colors have been made by natural dyeing materials, which has been continued up to now.
Dyeing materials are generally derived from plant and mineral sources, although animal sources such as red grains may also be used. Generally warps are generally made from animal wool and weavers dye them which results in a variety of designs in the texture of the Kilims by combining these dyed warps.

Weft thread
Weft yarn is usually obtained from domestic wool. Exquisite Kilims that may also be used in the decoration, their weft derived from under neck sheep wools.
Shahsavan tribe Kilim
The most important of these Kilims is the Sumak Kilim, which are called Verni in the local language. Generally, broken geometric patterns are used with light colors, you can not find two kilim of shahsavan in similar designs and colors. The best horse rug in Iran is Savan , which come in six pieces in a variety of colors.
Lory tribe Kilims
Lory tribe weave high quality Kilims that are characterized by black, green, blue, white colors with special patterns. The best Lory Kilim texture is Khorjin for keeping home instruments. They make carpet weavings on the fringes of Kilims to make them sturdy.
Hersin Kilim
Hersin Kilim is woven according to the weaver’s taste and circumstances. On the frieze, and backdrop of Kilim the motifs are finely and tensely woven, so that there is no space. Goat’s wool is used on the frieze of the Kilims because of it has anti termite characteristics. Hersin Kilims have limited colors and colors are mainly limited to white, red, green and more recently magenta. Hersin Kilim has been registered with the World Intellectual Property Organization (HIPH).
Baluch Kilim
Baluchis are always in combat with nature due to climatic conditions and have always expressed a desire to have abundant water and meadow resources in their weavings. Usually throughout the Baluchi Kilims designs are composed of striped lines with different patterns and colors in each row. Dark colors such as brown, dark red, and blue garlic and light colors such as green, yellow, red are characteristic of Baluchi designs.
Khamseh Kilim
Khamseh is composed of five Shiraz tribes. The weavings of sumac are called Khamseh Dehbid.
The most common design of Kilims is a dark natural background with stars as overlapping each other in lozenge pattern.
The stellar Kilims are weaved in short widths and then stitched together.
Newer Kilims sometimes have a white background.
Sanneh Kilim
Qashqai Kilims
The vibrant colors are characteristic of Qashqai Kilims, but the contrasting colors are also used alongside with the red and yellow colors. Geometric motifs are an essential part of Qashqai designs. Such as: octagon, star , figures of peacock, goat and deer.
Afshar Kilims
Afshar Kilims’s designs are usually multiple stars on a natural color or dark color background. The designs are stellar flowers arranged obliquely.
Zarand Kilims
Much of the work is done by the Shahsavnian Turks, many of whom have settled in the area. Zarand Kilims are long, slim and durable. Designs are with flowers and plants and sometimes in the form of a lozenge or two or three Paisley.
Turkmen Kilims
The Turkmen Kilim is light weight and sturdy. In these Kilims, color is the most important factor. Red color is a special color. Other colors are orange, blue, green and sometimes yellow. These contrasting colors create a beautiful harmony.
Masnadanbaran Kilims
This type of Kilim is woven in Anbar, Ardabil city. Flower design of its backdrop is called Kashmiri and is repeated in all of Kilim. other flowers include: Khara , Shah Abbasi Flower, Garmaee Flower, …
